One of the greatest challenges of digital music that music professionals, business men and investors have to contend with every so often has to do with digital music piracy. This is an act that normally leaves so many music investors and producers depleted of their hard earned money. It constitutes some kind of economic sabotage where people infringe on the copyrights and intellectual property rights of other people to make money from products they did not labor to produce. Another discouraging aspect of piracy is that it hinders creativity of the people involved in this act to put their brains to work and bring out jobs that will create a real income for them.
Digital music piracy has become real common and quite easy to carry out. With advanced recording devices and electronic appliances that can be used in mass duplication and sales of these intellectual products, it has become very easy mass duplicate this products especially musical albums that have made record hits in the market. Selling these products most times is not really an issue especially if it is music albums that have international recognition. The internet also to some extent has become a medium through which some of this unscrupulous people pedal their trade.
The digital music piracy is a very large market. It can be very difficult to give specific figures of how much this market is worth. This is because most of the markets are hidden and unknown, and also such markets thrive more in countries abroad where there are little or no laws to guard against such crimes. Sometimes in situations where there are laws to check this ugly transactions, the enforcements of these laws are poorly carried out. Hence, this usually presents a very convenient environment for the economic saboteurs to have a field day carrying out their economic sabotage.
